On Facebook, while scrolling through the newsfeed, I noticed a friend of mine posted something about feeling there’s so much pressure being in your early 20s because every decision you make determines the next 5 to 10 years of your life.
Here’s what I commented, and she said it made her day. I hope it can help encourage you, too.
Alison, here’s my life. I’m in between jobs. I’ve been living with my mom for the last 1.5 years. Sure, I’m slipping in and out of being depressed and anxious BUT, I know that God is there. I know that I’m smart, talented, and capable of doing so many great things in this life! Just change your perspective. I see this moment as living life in the “Alpenglow”. The alpenglow is that moment right as the sun is either setting or rising behind a mountain. It is often more beautiful than full sunlight itself. It is in these moments of young life that we really learn who we are, what we love, what we wouldn’t want to waste our time doing. And, before we know it, we rise out of the alpenglow and shine. Proverbs 4:18 “The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day.” You’re a star, Alison. A bright, beautiful one, at that.
Stop feeling like your life is over. Open yourself up to new possibilities, new dreams, new adventures, and chase after them. Sitting down and sulking in self-sorrow and self-deprecation will only depreciate your life and destroy any hope you have of rising out of the ashes and into the light. God is on your side.
He wields a sword, and He gives it to you.
That sword is the Word of God. God spoke and creation happened. His words are life, health, and freedom. God’s words are the foundation of existence. Read them. Absorb them. Let them transform you.
Your current circumstances do not define you, nor do they dictate who you are.
It’s time to shine, now. Let the earth rotate and let the splendor of your unique self come forth.
The Alpenglow has come to an end.
